World Asthma Day is an annual event organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma(GINA) to improve?asthma?awareness and care around the world. World Asthma Day takes place on May 3rd. This year’s theme is “Closing Gaps in Asthma Care.”

Asthma is a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus. This can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, a whistling sound when you breathe out, and shortness of breath.

World Asthma Day is held each May to make people aware of the disease and bridge the gaps in asthma care. Although asthma cannot be cured, it is possible to manage asthma to reduce and prevent asthma attacks, also called episodes or exacerbations.
